Microgreens are baby vegetable greens harvested just after the cotyledon leaves (first leaves) have developed with one set of true leaves. They are used as a visual, flavor and texture enhancement to many dishes. Microgreens are used to add sweetness and spiciness to soups, salads, smoothies, sandwiches, stir
stir fry's and many other foods.
Microgreens are a great source of beneficial plant compounds like antioxidants. What's more, their nutrient content is concentrated, which means that they often contain higher vitamin, mineral and antioxidant levels than the same quantity of mature greens and vegetables.
There are no strict guidelines on the exact amount of microgreens you should consume daily. A serving size of 1-2 cups of microgreens daily can be a great addition to your meals.
Microgreens can stay fresh for 10-14 days after harvest. To ensure freshness, refrigerate microgreens as soon as receiving.
As with other vegetables, it is always recommended to wash microgreens before consuming. However, do not rinse and then refrigerate. Rinse only the microgreens you will consume.
Depending on the harvest schedule, your microgreens will be delivered within 24hours of harvesting. For those on our delivery schedule, your microgreens will be delivered within 24 hour of harvest. No! This is a common misconception. Here are the main differences between microgreens and sprouts.
Microgreens and sprouts have noticeable differences in their growing methods, growth time, flavor, texture, and nutritional value. Microgreens are small vegetables or herbs harvested just before their first true leaves emerge, resulting in rich flavors and diverse textures.
Sprouts are seeds germinated only in water, providing a delicate flavor and a satisfying crunch. They still offer nutritional value but not as concentrated as Microgreens.
